22 Years

“I’ve been working here at Taco Time for 22 years as of yesterday! I work 15 – 20 hours a week, and I also get Social Security and Disability. So, it’s a pretty good job for me. I try to remember the names of the regulars, and sometimes I joke around with customers. So, life is good. I’ve been clean and sober a long time. There was a time when I was wild, crazy, drunk, and stoned. And, I hadn’t learned yet to stay on my medication. I was still figuring it out. I have bipolar disorder. I was in the hospital 10 times between 1980-1987. Then, that last time in 1987 I made a deal with my higher power. I told God I wouldn’t drink or smoke any more. Someone said that I prayed myself out of that hospital. And, it worked! I haven’t been back in the hospital since 1987.”
